We’re a firm of pros. We don’t take on every practice area that looks lucrative. We specialize in criminal defense and only rarely accept a business litigation case or parallel proceeding with criminal law overtones. Before entering private practice, all of our attorneys were either deputy public defenders or prosecutors with extensive jury trial experience. Our “of counsel” law and motion attorney has a PhD and was a philosophy professor before entering Stanford Law School. Our investigators include former police officers, deputy sheriffs and FBI Special Agents. Even our office administrator is striving constantly to improve her professional skills; she is enrolled in UCI’s paralegal program.
We pride ourselves on a holistic approach. We get to know our clients as human beings with rich, complex lives on the line. After analyzing their cases and thoroughly investigating them, we devise a strategy suited to the individual case. If we are retained before a case is filed, we try to persuade the prosecutor not to file a complaint, if that’s feasible, or at least to minimize the severity of the charges. Many times our very best work is done quietly, behind closed doors, and never spoken of again. Discretion is our watchword and we understand the critical importance of keeping our clients’ names out of the news if at all possible. If, however, media coverage can’t be avoided, we have enough experience handling high-profile cases that we can often shape the coverage to keep it from being one-sided. We get your story out, too.
We’re outstanding negotiators and wrap up most of our cases without a jury trial. Many are even concluded pre-filing. Sometimes, though, trial is inevitable, or may be the client’s best option. When that’s the case, we have the skill and experience to persuade a jury: we’re top-notch trial lawyers with the track record to prove it. We leave no stone unturned investigating the facts. We file extensive pretrial motions designed to limit damaging evidence and admit helpful testimony. We are thoroughly conversant with the law so we can obtain favorable jury instructions. And when necessary, we have the resources to seek appellate or writ relief to overturn trial court rulings.
